Tangley

Located on an urban lot within walking distance of the bustling Rice Village shopping district in the Southampton neighborhood of Houston, Texas this house is defined by strong horizontal lines with massing of honed buff limestone that create a strong base. The overall material pallet consists of warm earth tone colors for both the interior and exterior of the home.

The home is elevated above natural grade due to it being located within the 500-yr floodplain. This was viewed as an opportunity and allowed for design elements to occur at various heights. A series of terraced decks, tiered landscaped beds, and large planters define the space and anchor the home to the site with a strong indoor to outdoor connection.

The spaces are organized around an internal courtyard for privacy from the street and to allow a view from all interior rooms. With walls of floor to ceiling glass an abundance of natural light floods the interior of the home. The first floor consists of an open concept kitchen and family room for day-to-day living, a lounge with a full bar and a formal dining room for entertaining guests, and a dedicated home office. The second floor of the home has a private family room along with 4 bedrooms.
